Skyhawk 2026
During the term 2 school holidays members of 10 SQN along with our unit mascot Sabre joined up with some cadets from No.32 (Borough of Feilding), No.11 (District of Hastings) and No.49 (District of Kapiti) Squadrons to make a team to compete at the 2026 Central Area Aviation Skills Competition- Exercise Skyhawk held at RNZAF Base Ohakea.
During the 2 day competition over 100 cadets from 12 different Units from the Central Area competed in a number of Aviation focused challenges. from Aircraft Marshalling, Tent Assembly (which is not as simple as its sounds because they have to put a 14x14 frame up in the deep end of the pool then move it into the shallow end without it falling apart!), to drone piloting and obstacle courses. Military Skills: Drill (Davey Drill Trophy), truck/Unimog pulling, equipment carrying, First aid, range shooting, dry-fire training tests (DFTT), field communications.and even Disc Plane AKA Frisbee golf to crown one unit as the central area representative for the national finals competition later in the year against the winners of both the northern and southern areas competitions.
Congratulations to No.2 Squadron for being the 2026 Central area Skyhawk winners. All of us here at 10 Squadron wish you all the best for the national skyhawk comp later in the year against the winners of the northern and southern areas skyhawk comps
